Miodesopsie (Mosche Volanti)
Do you see tiny 'flies', strands or 'cobwebs' drifting around your field of vision? You've most likely had them for some time. These are called vitreous floaters. The floaters are not outside your eyes but actually inside them in the vitreous jelly. Floaters generally get worse with age and are usually made of clumps of collagen in the vitreous gel. When light enters the eye the floaters cast shadows on the light sensitive retina giving the impression of floaters appearing outside the eye. Although floaters are annoying, they are not dangerous. However, if you have a sudden onset of floaters you should always have a dilated retinal examination by a qualified eye-care practitioner immediately.
