Non-proliferative diabetic retinopathy or NPDR is an early stage of diabetic retinopathy affecting the retina. NPDR affects the small blood vessels in the retina. The vessels leak with fluid and blood causing the retina to swell. Over time, this swelling causes a gradual reduction to vision.
