Membrana Epiretinica
An Epiretinal membrane or Macular Pucker, affects the macula area of the retina. Epiretinal membranes occur because of a proliferation of fibrous tissue on the retina. As the tissue contracts, it pulls on the retina causing a distortion to its surface. As a result, epiretinal membranes can cause symptoms of smearing and distortion. Epiretinal membranes are most commonly a complication after a posterior vitreous detachment where the jelly inside the eye detaches from the retina.
